PARISH BULLETIN
July 1, 2007
Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners,

The life of a disciple of Jesus is not glamorous. On the contrary, being a disciple of Jesus is difficult. It is not for the faint of heart. When Jesus invited people to follow him, some responded. Others had excuses or reasons to not heed the call of discipleship.

To follow Jesus requires faith and trust in him. Life as a disciple is unpredictable. Even Jesus does not know where he may rest after a long day of proclaiming the Kingdom of God and curing the sick. Those who follow him cannot expect an easy life. Jesus reminds his disciples that they are to be totally dependent upon God the Father for their existence. God will provide for their needs day in and day out. Jesus relied upon God the Father for everything. In doing this, Jesus learned obedience. Jesus’ disciples are to do the same.

As human beings, we are prone to use excuses or come up with reasons for not doing something that is challenging and good for us in the long run. We hear excuse after excuse from those Jesus calls to follow him, and from those who would like to follow him. Nothing is to get in the way of following Jesus, not even family concerns. Jesus may sound insensitive to those who need to attend to their family, but he reminds everyone that he comes first in the life a disciple.

As true Christians, we are to put Christ at the center of our lives. Christ comes first. Christ is the Alpha, the beginning of life, our life. Everything else falls into place. Once we have heeded Jesus’ invitation to follow him, there is no looking back. We leave everything behind. Our eyes are to be fixed on our Lord at all times.

Father Paul

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
July 7th

Mother Teresa said:

“To be alone with Jesus in adoration and intimate union with Him is the greatest gift of love—-the tender love of our Father in heaven.

The fruit of our adoration is that our love for Jesus is more intimate, our love for each other is more understanding our love for the poor is more compassionate.”

On Saturday, July 7th and on every First Saturday of each month, following the 8:30 a.m. Mass and continuing until 10 a.m. in our Church, we have an opportunity to rest in the quiet and powerful Presence of Jesus and to listen to Him as He speaks to our hearts.
