The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

Children in tow I have sunk real low

There have been times in my life when cupboards have been bare and we had no where to go.

We waited in food lines me trying real hard not to cry. but I was always so grateful that there was always someone with God's love to share.

Times have changed and so have I. I no longer have to cry But the memories are still there And I must be fair.

God’s spirit and love Is now for me to share with those that may think that God doesn’t care.

ST. ROBERT'S ANNUAL PARISH FESTIVAL
September 21st, 22nd and 23rd

BBQ AND FOOD BOOTH needs your help. We need 8 to 10 workers in the booths at all times. If you can help to BBQ or serve. We also need strong young people to be our runners for the entire 3 days. Anyone who signs up to be a runner can earn their community service hours. We also need at least 4 people to help prepare the condiments Friday afternoon before the festival begins to slice tomato's, onions, chopping lettuce, boiling hot dogs etc. Please call the Downs family to secure the time slot that you desire.

The Body and Blood of the Lord
This feast is a very important one, since the Eucharist is the heart of our faith and nurtures our efforts to live out the gospel of Jesus in community with other believers and for the life of the world. The liturgy has developed through the years as research into the languages of the scriptures, their meaning for the peoples of those times, and our understanding of their cultures has brought new insights. Vatican II, for example, teaches that the Lord is truly present in the transformed elements of bread and wine and in the priest, as we’ve been taught. The Fathers added that the Lord is also present in his word proclaimed and in us, his people, through our baptism. In addition to receiving the Body of Christ, we are now more aware that we are the Body of Christ with all of humanity.

As Christ feeds our hunger with the Eucharist, we now have a unique opportunity to feed the hungry of our world. The Farm Bill, reauthorized every five years, includes wide-ranging provisions, most of which need adjustment. The Food Stamp Program, for example, needs to be simplified and the benefit level increased so that more hungry people can participate. Local and regional farm-to-market and farm-to-school initiatives need to be strengthened and incentives provided to encourage purchase of fruits and vegetables. Improving the nutrition level of school lunches - lessening the high fructose corn syrup and salt content - would definitely help the epidemic of obesity rampant in our children. There needs to be investment in rural communities to encourage diversity of crops instead of huge subsidies of specific crops and financial help for small farmers and new farmers instead of for multi-billion dollar agribusiness. Strengthening policies that promote conservation and stewardship of the land and protect the health and safety of farmworkers is essential. Lastly, our U.S. food assistance to the poor in other countries needs to be improved and expanded. The practice of “dumping” our excess commodities - wheat, cotton, corn and soybeans – in poor countries keeps local farmers from selling their own produce and supporting their families.

Please contact our senators and congressman to let them know what is important to you as a person of faith who believes that none of God’s children need to go hungry. You can reach them at http://lantos.house.gov, http://boxer.senate.gov and http://feinstein.senate.gov. If you wish more information on the farm bill, go to www.bread.org or call 1-800-82-bread, or www.oxfamamerica.org. As Jesus feeds us with his Body, may we feed his people by our actions.

Peace, S. Sheral
