Third Sunday of Lent

Dear Friends:

Together we read today's Gospel and agree that, when we were growing up, we were taught that all anger was a sin. We were puzzled then each time this gospel was read.

We picture Jesus (eyes ablaze) lashing out at tables with His whip; overturning them; spilling coins of money-changers and driving out of the temple the merchants with their sheep and oxen. What a sight that must have been! This is not the kindly, mild-mannered, miracle-working teacher whom everyone loved! Jesus certainly got the people's attention!

As we view this scene, we realize that anger is an honest, human emotion that is sometimes needed for us in order to confront an evil situation and stand up for what we truly believe is right.

We too are faced with situations upon which we need to vent our anger. The anger of God's people has brought about changes in our Church that will purify the Body of Christ. We cannot sit complacently by when we witness others being mistreated, abused or oppressed. We have a moral responsiblity to use the gift of justifiable anger as did Jesus. May the zeal for His Father's House that consumed Him consume each of us as well. As we continue our Lenten journey, we ask Jesus to RENEW US IN THE LIGHT OF FAITH. May He enlighten us to know what to do with our feelings of anger.

Sincerely,
Gene & Anna May

Make Plans for Holy Week

There are many demands on our time and energy at this time of the year, but I'd like to make a special push for us to have a good parish turn-out at our Holy Week services, particularly those of Holy Thursday evening and the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night (many of us already attend the Good Friday services). I like to refer to our three-day celebration from Holy Thursday evening to Easter Sunday as St. Robert's "Spring Festival". Indeed, these services are as important to us religiously as the Fall Festival is to us socially and financially! They are especially important because we welcome new adult members to the parish through Baptism! (And, as a personal favorite, the music is some of the best of the year!) Make some room for — take a chance on — the Evening Mass on Holy Thursday and the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. P. V.-K.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS AND LENTEN SUPPERS

At 6:00 pm each Friday (except for Good Friday), Stations of the Cross will be held in the Church. Come and experience the love Jesus has for each of us as we follow His journey to Calvary. A light Lenten meal will be held in Hennessy Hall following Stations. The Women's Guild will host this Friday's Lenten meal. A box has been placed on the serving table. We ask that you donate the amount you would normally spend on your Friday evening meal. Your gift will buy food that our St. Vincent de Paul Society will give to our sisters and brothers in need. If you are new at the Parish, this is a good way to become acquainted with members of our Parish family. All are invited. As we pray, fast and give to the poor together, may the Holy Spirit

RENEW US IN THE LIGHT OF FAITH!

AMERICAN BISHOPS OVERSEAS APPEAL
Next Weekend, March 29-30th
GIVING HOPE TO A WORLD IN NEED

Nearly half of the world's population lives on less that $2 a day. In Bolivia, the poorest country in South America, people live in areas with few or no basic water and sanitation services. Catholic Relief Services is there - developing a water system and providing education. Acts of terrorism, war, and persecution affect nearly 15 million people who are enduring desperate lives as refugees, unwelcome in another country and unable to return home. Migration and Refugee Services is there - helping refugees begin new lives of peace and hope through resettlement in the U.S. The poorest countries have not fully benefited from international debt relief legislation and struggle under a crushing debt. Social Development and World Peace is there - focusing the attention of the world on this problem. These Catholic organizations are helping the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters around the world. Please support them by giving generously to the ABOA collection next Sunday.
