Pastor's Update

Fr. Arnold Zamora

June 2, 2023

Things you may want to know this week.

1.

Thirty-Two (32) students walked down the church aisle for their Baccalaureate Mass this morning and their Graduation Ceremony this afternoon. Of these incoming high schoolers, 6 are going to Junipero Serra, 12 to Capuchino, 4 to Burlingame, 4 to Mercy, 1 to Rocklin, 1 to South San Francisco, 2 to Saint Ignatius, 1 to Sacred Heart, and 1 to Notre Dame Belmont. Congratulations!

2.

Yesterday, I attended my first Archdiocesan board meeting as a member of the Capital Asset Support Corporation (CASC). Being the neophyte of the group, I was asked to lead the Opening Prayer. Then suddenly, I was elected as the new Vice-President of this board that I am just learning about. So, help me God!

3.

Next Tuesday, June 6, 2023, is the first meeting of the Envisioning Team of the Next Generation Parish program. Lori Tedjeske from the Catholic Leadership Institute will be flying in once again from Philadelphia to be with us at that session. Our Envisioning Team is composed of: Monica Castillo, Margot Giusti, Peter Johnson, Jun Abellana, Michael Nerney, Ann Clifford, GP Eleria, Brent Villalobos and Cathy/Rob Aveson. Please continue to pray that great things will come out of this program for the benefit of the parish.

4.

We will have our first Youth Group meeting following the new bi-weekly schedule this Sunday, June 4th from 2:00 - 4:00p.m. The Youth Ministry is currently open to all incoming 6th through 12th graders. The rest of the summer schedule will be announced on June 4, after the Youth Group Meeting. Encourage our young people to join the group, and find new ways of expressing themselves and develop many lifelong skills

5.

The Young Voices of the Philippines, one of the best children's choirs from the Philippines, will have a concert in our church this coming July 16, 2023, at 7:00p.m. The group is coming to town for a Choral Festival in San Francisco prior to their concert at St. Robert's. They will have a concert tour around the US, including a performance at the Carnegie Hall in New York. General admission is $30. Please watch, and enjoy the magnificent voices these children will bring for your enjoyment!

6.

Our Children's Liturgy for ages 3-7 yrs old will be held next weekend, Sunday, June 11, 2023, at the 9:30a.m. Mass. Bring your little ones, and "do not hinder them" from coming to Jesus.

7.

We received some online transactions charged to credit/debit cards that have already expired or with insufficient funds. Please check your cards if they are up-to-date. Thank you for your generosity.

8.

Wednesday, June 7, marks my 37th priestly anniversary. There will be no special celebration. However, I am asking for your prayers that I may continue to be faithful to my calling.

9.

Thursday, June 8, is the 65th year anniversary of the First Mass being celebrated at St. Robert. We will celebrate this day by honoring our long-time parishioners at all the masses the weekend of June 10-11. We will ask them to stand up to be acknowledged and blessed by the congregation. That day is also our NameTag Weekend. Everybody will be asked to wear a tag with their name that weekend. Coffee and donuts will be served at the 9:30a.m. Mass.

Synod

2021 thru 2023

What is a synod?

A synod is a council of the Church, usually convened to decide an issue of doctrine, administration or application. The word synod is from the Greek sinodos (s???d??) meaning “assembly” or “meeting” and is similar to the Latin concilium meaning “council”. Sometimes the phrase “general synod” or “general council” refers to an ecumenical council, like the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965).
