Mailed in
Guest Issues:

  • Donna McGuigan sent in a concern whether Spanish was an elective or academic subject. She had concerns about a child's Spanish grade being used to calculate honor roll eligibility. Spanish this year is ungraded, however certain academic and behavioral criteria are in place for a student to remain in Spanish each quarter. Additionally, she suggested amending the parent handbook to include the word "volunteer" in the yard duty section. This will be addressed in next year's handbook. Her final concern was homework club. She asked if students would be able to receive math help after school from their teachers if they are in homework club. As of this time, none of the junior high math teachers are staffing homework club. If one of them did however, the student could still ask the other math teacher for help.
  • Mary Shick asked for the volleyball net to be set up in the lower yard during recess. The time it would take to set up and take down the net each day would not give the students time to play. Additionally, the foam balls used during recess could cause the students difficulty in adjusting to the regular volleyball during practices and games.
  • Mike Kent raised the idea of an academic award at graduation such as for all five years on final honor roll. Later in the meeting, the concern was addressed when CJSF was introduced. It is the junior program of California Scholarship Federation and will reward students in seventh and eighth grade for honors.
  • The final concern brought up by three separate parents was shade for the first and second grade eating area. Additional umbrellas had already been set up for the area on Wednesday.

.

Old Business:

  • The School Brochure will continue where it left off last year. A parent has offered to help with the layout. Also, we discussed publicizing the school more through SB Cable, newspaper, etc.
  • The Mascot Store was revisited from last year. Men's Club has been selling shirts and Jim will talk to George Horton about ideas for the mascot store.
  • The discussion of using the fireworks booth will be tabled until the outcome of the city vote and approval by the Archdiocese.

.

New Business:

  • The CJSF award was discussed (see Mike Kent concern). The board agreed to have the school apply for membership.
  • Reviewed the budget. Father Bruce explained that all sports funds have been transferred from the school account to the funds account.
  • Discussed ways for the school board to assist the Scrip program. Ray, Yvonne and Linda Cuddy will have a meeting.
  • We are in the process of implementing a sports page on the parish web site.
  • Father Bruce talked about the trip hazard in front of school. John Lynch has put in a bid to fix it.
  • We discussed replacing the school bell system. It is outdated and has been malfunctioning. Yvonne discussed some quotes and will continue to research.
