Dear Parishioners,

Season III of Renew 2000 will occur during the weeks of October 3-November 14, 1999. As in the past you will be invited to join a small group at sign-up in September. There will also be an insert in each Sunday bulletin so all may participate whether in a small group or not.

Season III’s theme is "Reaching Out" (emphasizing evangelization) Evangelization does not mean talking people into doing something they do not want to do. It means helping people who want to come back home to the Catholic Faith feel welcome; and it means inviting people who have no home in any faith feel welcome in the Catholic Faith.

The topics for faith sharing groups are as follows:

Week 1- Living and Witnessing

Week 2 - Sharing and Inviting

Week 3 - Sharing our stories. (Participants will be encouraged to invite guests this week).

Week 4 - Preaching the Good News in Today’s World.

Week 5 - Christians coming Together.

Week 6 - Unity of the Human Family in the New Millennium.

Please keep these matters in prayer in our summertime.

Sincerely,
Father Morris

MASS MUSINGS

"A Time for Eucharist"

The social aspects of our gathering for Eucharist are as complex and colorful as the people in our community. With a nod to the Book of Ecclesiastes, we can say:

There’s a time for gathering, and a time for sending forth.
A time for talking, and a time to refrain from talking.
A time to say hello, and a time to refrain from saying hello.
There’s a time to sing, and a time not to sing.
A time to listen, and a time to respond.
A time to give, and a time to receive.
A time for silence, and a time for a joyful noise.
A time to leave, and a time to stay.
There’s a time to serve, and a time to be served.
A time to change, and a time to keep things the same.
There’s a time to worship God, and there’s a time to love our neighbor. In Jesus Christ, who is our Eucharist, the two cannot be divided.

Pat Kelly

ATTENTION ALL USHERS

Are you a regular or semi-regular usher at Mass? If so, please plan to attend a brief meeting with Pat Kelly on Sunday, July 25th, in the Reconciliation Room 5 minutes after each Mass. Come after whichever Mass you attend that day. We will put together a roster and update the procedures. If you cannot attend, please call Pat Kelly at 589-2800.

"THE MINISTRY MARKET"

Sunday, August 15th, we will have tables set up outside church after Masses with information about many of our ministries. Stop by to get info about how we can serve you or how you can get involved.

LETTERS TO GOD FROM OUR 3RD GRADE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASS

Dear God, I hope that my Grandma and Grandpa and my cats, Moe and Curly, are happy in heaven with you. Give them a big hug for me! I’m sure you are taking great, great, great, great, great care of them.

WANTED

Our parish buildings are growing old - the school and the convent are approaching 50 years of age. As a result, there are a growing number of many repairs and maintenance needed. Some are major and will call for the use of contractors, but many of the repairs or maintenance can be accomplished by ourselves. If you have talents you would like to share with your Parish - be it in the area of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, strong muscles, etc., please contact Dan Murtagh and, if he’s not home, leave a message as to how you can help. I have asked Dan to take on this responsibility and to make an effort to spread the hard work around our parish members. All too often, we have the same generous people doing too much of the work. Call Dan today and volunteer.

MISSION COLLECTION SCHEDULED

Father Donald Webber C.P., a Passionist Missionary, will preach the annual mission collection at all the Masses THIS WEEKEND July 17th and 18th. Father Webber will present the needs of the Passionist Missions of Holy Cross Province. A special collection will be taken up to support their missions.

The Passionists are a world-wide Community in 53 different countries. Their mid-west Province, with headquarters in Chicago, IL., have overseas missions in India, Africa, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, the West Indies and in Alabama. Please welcome Father Webber and be generous to their missions.

RENEW UPDATE

Several of our faith-sharing communities are continuing to meet during the Summer. It’s a rich experience many of us don’t want to give up!

The next RENEW Season is October 3-November 14. The focus will be on "Reaching Out" through evangelization and hospitality. Please keep our parish preparations in your prayers.
