The Holy Trinity

Dear Parishioners:

Today the church celebrates the feast of the Holy Trinity and probably for most of us the feast is a celebration of a great mystery - three persons in one God. Yet every Sunday at Mass when we recite the Nicene Creed, we profess our faith in the Trinity. St. Paul, in the second reading today from Corinthians, summarizes the doctrine simply:

"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you"

Grace, love & friendship. These are the characteristics of the Trinity, signs of God’s presence among us and in us. Signs that invite us to pray continually for the needs of our world, the needs of our country, the needs of our parish and especially for the young people of the parish.

Vacation time is about to start and we pray that the children and teenagers from our Religious Education Program and from St. Robert’s School will have a blessed, happy and safe summer. May they always know and experience God’s love and care for them.

Sincerely,
Sister Mary O’Donnell

MASS MUSINGS

"Communion from the Cup"

Today and next Sunday, the Feasts of the Holy Trinity and of the Body & Blood of Christ, respectively, are opportune moments for you to decide to receive Communion from the Cup. Jesus said, "Take this, all of you, and drink from it. This is the cup of my blood. The blood of the new and everlasting covenant." Drinking from the Cup is a sign that we accept our part of the covenant relationship with God, the Holy Trinity. It’s an old, ancient sign. If the covenant was first established in 20th century USA, we might come forward every Sunday to sign a contract or to give a handshake. But as it is, we share a Cup to renew our relationship with the Trinity: The Father offers eternal life to us who believe in Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection and who live in his loving Spirit. To drink from the Cup can be your "handshake," your "Amen," your sign of faith and trust.-P.K.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

On Saturday, June 5th, following the 8:30AM Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will be held in the Church. Jesus has said to us: "Seek and you will find." To find Jesus, we needn’t look far. He is present — Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Eucharist.

Come - Seek - Find Jesus.

Concern must be shown for the elderly, who are often neglected and left to fend for themselves. They must be respected as persons; it is important to care for them and to help them in ways which will promote their rights and ensure their greatest possible physical and spiritual well-being. (They) must be protected from situations or pressures which could drive them to suicide...they must be helped nowadays to resist the temptation of assisted suicide and euthanasia.   Pope John Paul II, Ecclesia in America, No. 63

THANKS FOR CLEANING UP!!

The Liturgy Committee thanks you for responding to the clean-up announcements at Mass during the past few weeks. Your cooperation has made a HUGE difference for the better! Let’s keep it up!

FOR ALL PARENTS
from Father Ring

Recently, Archbishop Chaput of Denver, Colorado testified before a committee of the United States Senate about the killings in Littleton. He said in part....

Blaming shock-rock performers like Marilyn Manson for the violence in our culture is easy. It’s also, in a way, probably right. But the problem of violence isn’t out there in bad music and bloody films. The real problem is in here, in us, and it won’t be fixed by v-chips. In the last four decades we’ve created a culture that markets violence in dozens of different ways, seven days a week. It’s part of our social fabric. When we build our advertising campaigns on consumer selfishness and greed, and when money becomes the universal measure of value, how can we be surprised when our sense of community erodes? When we glorify and multiply guns, why are we shocked when kids use them?

When we answer murder with more violence in the death penalty, we put the state’s seal of approval on revenge. When the most dangerous place in the country is a mother’s womb and the unborn child can have his or her head crushed in an abortion, even in the process of being born, the body language of that message is that life isn’t sacred and may not be worth much at all. In fact, certain kinds of killing no longer even count officially as "killing". Certain kinds of killing we enshrine as rights and protect by law. When we live this kind of contradiction, why are we surprised at the results?

Parents, please give these words your deepest consideration.

ARCHBISHOP'S ANNUAL APPEAL

Dear Parishioners,

Last call! We have now reached over $60,000 of our goal of $78,000 for the Annual appeal from Archbishop Levada. As you know, the money helps pay for programs that individual parishes are not able to provide on their own. I hope that your family will take part in this important financial drive. Please pray over it and make a generous contribution. God has been good to you. It is now your opportunity to share with the Church. Consider making a pledge of ten dollars each month. If we do not reach our goal, I will have to make up the shortage from our Parish savings. This will make it difficult to maintain the amount of money we need to keep our Church and other buildings in proper condition.

Sincerely,
Father Vincent D. Ring
