Dear Parishioners,

Thank you to all who have worked so hard to make our Parish Festival a success. The many men and women who have devoted countless hours for several months to prepare for this event deserve the thanks of each and every parishioner. My own special thanks to the Rob Monaghan family for coordinating the Festival and for calming me down whenever I grew apprehensive as to the future.

A parishioner gave me this little story. I thought you might enjoy it.

It seems that many years ago in Ireland the Bishop assigned the task of soliciting funds for retired priests to a certain middle-aged priest who for many years had lived in this same area. His task was to visit several parishes in each diocese every week and ask for donations. He could use whatever transportation that was available, train, horse drawn buggy and even a bicycle. It was late on one Sunday afternoon when the priest finally arrived at an inn for the night. He was weary and hungry and needed a good rest. He inquired about a room and was told by the innkeeper that there was a room available but that the room was on the top floor and was reported to be haunted. The priest replied that he could deal with any ghosts and he was more concerned with a hot meal and a comfortable bed. He took the room and retired for the night. The next morning at check-out the innkeeper asked if the priest had enjoyed his stay. The priest replied that the food was delicious and the bed very comfortable....and oh yes there was a ghost in the room. He appeared on the stroke of midnight. My goodness, cried the innkeeper, what did you do then, father? The priest replied, "I just asked him for a donation, and he vanished!"

Remember to pray each day for the success of RENEW.

Fr. Ring

MASS MUSINGS

When we think about gathering together for Sunday Eucharist, let’s do so as an entire community. How can each of us, not only our greeters, be more friendly, familiar, and hospitable? Suggestions: We can move to the middle of the pew to be more open to others sitting next to us. Let’s introduce ourselves before the cantor asks us to do so!

RENEW 2000
PRAYER FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM

Gracious God, We are your people embraced by your love. We thank you for your presence with us throughout all time. As we celebrate the 2000 years since the birth of Jesus...Create us anew. Liberate us from that which keeps us from you. Enable us to recreate our world and restore justice. Heal us from every form of sin and violence. Transform us to live your Word more profoundly. Reconcile us so enemies become friends. Awaken us to the sacred; nurture our relationships; Enliven our parishes; reunite our families. Fill us with joy to celebrate the fullness of life. Empower us to be a community of love growing in your likeness. Amen.

RENEW 2000...COME AND SEE

How might we rediscover God in our lives? Like the saints and mystics, we do not discover God so much by shutting ourselves away or merely reading about how to become holy. Rather we find God in our everyday lives, in our everyday experiences. If you would like to be trained as a facilitator or open up your home for the 6 week meetings, please call the Rectory Office at 589-2800. Join RENEW in the Fall.
