PARISH BULLETIN

Dear Parishioners,

As we begin the season of Advent, I hope that all of us remember to put emphasis on the need all of us have to truly PREPARE ourselves for our celebration of the coming of Christ into our world. We have to admit that we can get so tied up with shopping and all the other things involved with Christmas that we can forget Christ Himself. Try each day to set aside five minutes of prayer - asking Jesus to come to our world, to your family and to each one of us with the inner peace that only He can give.

I want to formally invite you to our Advent celebration of Scripture Readings and Music that will be celebrated in the Church this Sunday night at 7 PM. It will be an hour well spent as we PREPARE for the coming of Christ.

I also want to emphasize to you the need for us to be at peace with God and our neighbor when we commemorate the coming of Jesus into the world. Please mark your calendars for the celebration of the Sacrament of Penance (Confession) - Saturday, December 20th at 3 PM and Monday evening, December 22nd at 7:30 PM.

As you think about the gifts you will give to your loved ones at Christmas, please pray over your gift to the Church. It is a sign of your commitment to your Faith and to your Parish. I would ask those who do not make a contribution each week to be extra generous this year as we have fallen behind our budget needs.

I hope all of you join me in looking forward to the return of our New Year’s Eve dinner dance - please consult the notice in this bulletin giving you the details. My hope is that many of you will join our Parish family for a wonderful evening.

Sincerely,

Fr. Ring

A Service of Lessons and Carols for Advent
At St. Robert’s Church
Sunday, December 7, at 7pm

THIS WILL BE THE TRADITIONAL SERVICE OF PROPHETIC READINGS FORETELLING THE COMING OF THE MESSIAH, ALTERNATING WITH SOME OF THE LOVELY CAROLS OF THE SEASON. ALL THREE CHOIRS, THE CHILDREN, THE FIL-AM AND THE 10:30 MASS CHOIR WILL BE PARTICIPATING.

THANK YOU FROM ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

I want to thank the many parishioners for the enormous number of canned foods taken to our SVDP baskets and the turkeys brought to the rectory. Our thanks to our volunteers who distributed them and in particular to my daughter, Lisa Deluca, who spent 3 afternoons compiling the cans of food on "desk tops" in my garage - each in its own category that made it so much easier for our SVDP volunteers who called on 20 homes on Saturday, the 22nd. Wally Mooney, President, SVDP.

WOMEN'S GUILD NEWS

The St. Robert’s Women’s Guild will be having its annual potluck hors d’oeuvres and dessert Christmas party on Dec. 8th in Hennessey Hall at 6:30 PM. We would like each person to bring one new, unwrapped toy for Sr. Ita to distribute to needy families. Hope to see you there!

RENEW 2000
PRAYER FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM

Each week we will concentrate on one phrase from the Renew Prayer.

This week let us pray ——

Gracious God, we thank you for your presence with us throughout all time.

CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR THE HOMEBOUND

During this time of preparation for the coming of Jesus, some of our sisters and brothers are at home waiting to be touched by the love and joy of Christmas. We can help this to happen. Baskets are on the altar steps waiting for your donation of a gift for the Homebound. Suggestions are: slippers, robes, dusters, white knee-high stockings, lap robes, sweaters, nightgowns or pajamas. Please let these gifts be new. Cut-off date is December 18th. Thank you for caring.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

Human weakness brought evil into the world, but God assures us of salvation through Christ. Mary played a special role in God's redemptive plan. She was sinless in order to be a worthy channel for Christ. Mary's obedience was the condition for the coming of the Savior. She did not understand God's plan but she accepted it totally. Like Mary, we too should be open to God's will. At St. Robert’s, we will celebrate this December 8th Holy Day of Obligation with masses at 6:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 10:30 AM and 6:00 PM.

SECOND COLLECTION

Thank you for your generous donation of $2,391.65 to the Campaign for Human Development on Nov. 23rd.

Next weekend, Dec. 14 there will be a second collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious. "A lifetime of service † A moment of thanks." Please contribute generously.

ATTENTION USHERS

You are requested to attend an important meeting following the 8:30 AM Mass on Saturday, Dec. 13th. New collection procedures will be explained and implemented on that weekend. Any questions - please call Gene or Anna May.
