PARISH BULLETIN

Dear Parishioners,

I want to thank Fr. Morris, Fr. Marini and all who took such wonderful care of the Parish during my recent vacation. In fact, Fr. Morris claims I should stay away far more, in that only one person died while I was away - far below the normal number!

For me to return and see all the marvelous things going on in St. Robert’s Parish is a great reminder that a Parish is not buildings and is not the Pastor alone; it is all those who have been baptized into Christ and are willing to share of their time, talents and treasures in order to serve God and neighbor.

The press recently played up the statements of a few bishops that the Church should reinstate the old practice of not eating meat on Friday as a form of penance. To me to give up meat or not is not the point - some people love fish and can spend far more on it than they would on a good stew - the real point is that we all need to do penance in our lives. How we do it should be a personal choice.

On a constructive note, the Bishops’ Committee on Marriage and Family recently produced an excellent paper - ALL OUR CHILDREN - A Pastoral Message to Parents of Homosexual Children. If anyone in the Parish is interested in having a copy of this most compassionate document on the relationship between homosexuals, their parents and their Church, please contact me - 589-2800.

Sincerely,
Fr. Ring

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

Next Sunday is the 5th Sunday of November. Traditionally, when the 5th Sunday rolls around, four times each year, there is a second collection taken up for the work of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The people of St. Robert’s are always generous beyond belief! Even though you received no envelope marked St. Vincent de Paul in your Sunday Envelopes, there will be a 2nd collection taken up next Sunday —please be as generous as you usually are. THANK YOU

AS A PARISH COMMUNITY

We welcome into the family of God, Sofia Elvira Mendoza, Jacob Patrick Sanders and Robert Howard Chapman who were baptized in Christ.

We pray for the ill: Ana Cosgaya, Tony Coogan, Bill Wilson, Peter Capodonicco, Rosemary McHale, Arthur Candia, and Margarita Velez .

We pray for the repose of the souls of Genevieve Anthony (mother of Linda Maule), and Dora Villanueva offering our sympathies to their families.

We pray for our Sisters of the Presentation. They have set Christ, our King, ever before them and have followed His path to life. May their hearts be glad and their souls rejoice.

RENEW PRAYER

Gracious God
We are your people embraced by your love.
We thank you for your presence with us throughout all time.
As we celebrate the 2000 years since the birth of Jesus...
Create us anew.
Liberate us from that which keeps us from you.
Enable us to recreate our world and restore justice.
Heal us from every form of sin and violence.
Transform us to live your Word more profoundly.
Reconcile us so enemies become friends.
Awaken us to the sacred, nurture our relationships.
Enliven our parishes; reunite our families.
Fill us with joy to celebrate the fullness of life.
Empower us to be a community of love growing in your likeness.
Amen!
