Dear St. Robert’s Family,

Once again we are called upon to prepare the Lord's way. Throughout this Advent season we have been reading from the prophet Isaiah. We move from the establishment of the Lord's house to visions of peace where lion and lamb lie together to the desert blooming, finally arriving with the great passage of Midnight Mass.

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Upon those who dwell in the land of gloom a light has shone… For the yoke that burdened them, the pole on their shoulder… You have smashed... For a child is born to us… Isaiah 9:1-5

There is so much hype about the Christmas season. Some stores began with Christmas decorations before costumes were taken from the box for Halloween: the emphasis on buy early and buy a lot. Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) enticed buyers to come out at midnight or 4:00 a.m. for spectacular sales. Cyber Monday (the Monday after Thanksgiving) was one of the busiest days for on-line shopping with enticements like free shipping, etc.

Is Christ still part of Christmas? One might begin to wonder. We make the difference in our lives and the lives of our families. Christ remains in Christmas when we take the time to prepare the Lord's way in Advent with some family time of prayer, reading or activity. Christ remains in Christmas as we support the efforts of our Adopt-A-Family and Giving Tree programs. Christ remains in Christmas when we volunteer some time with St. Vincent de Paul or Catholic Worker House.

Most importantly Christ remains in Christmas when we gather as a family on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning to celebrate the meal which He left us to remember Him.

We invite you and your family to keep Christ in Christmas this year. Celebrate our Christmas liturgies with us.

May God continue to bless you with his grace and peace.

Father Bruce
