PARISH BULLETIN

Palm Sunday

Dear Parishioners,

As we begin Holy week with Palm Sunday, standing and listening to the passion of our Lord in Matthews Gospel, what sights, sounds and smells do we remember from our experiences of Holy week over the years?

What comes to mind when we look at the cross? Is it love, suffering, mercy salvation or is it obedience?

Jesus passed through death to new life because of his obedience, paving the way for us all to experience the same death to life transformation.

As we meditate on the death and resurrection of Jesus this Holy week, let’s allow the promise of the Gospel to move us to imitate Jesus” life of obedience.

He urges us to Bless and not curse to intercede and not condemn, all one family Christ in Christ. The more we love one another, the more the Gospel will triumph in everyone's hearts.

God Bless
Deacon John

Our Journey with Jesus
Today we begin the most important week of the liturgical year. We’re invited to set aside our usual schedules and make time for journeying with Jesus through the Triduum: the three days of his giving of himself in the Eucharist and in loving service; in his agonizing passion and death; and his resurrection, carrying us all with him to newness of life. What other proof do we need that we are loved beyond measure?

On Good Friday afternoon, we will sing, “Father, I put my life in your hands.” Ultimately, that is the invitation Jesus extends to us as well: the Father is worthy of our trust, no matter what. We will not be abandoned. Four adults who have prayed, listened and discussed through the RCIA process, will become our newest members on Holy Saturday night. Their faith urges us to recommit ourselves to our faith, a faith which we can sometimes take for granted.

The readings these nights are powerful and would melt the hardest heart. “People who have heard the Word and have breathed in a new Spirit know what we must do. We must set about doing what was done for us, speak life-giving and affirming “words” – by means of both speech and action. [We have] a broad vision of life –life in its beauty and grandeur; life in small wonders; life in community, committed to life-giving words and deeds; life in earth’s multitude of peoples and cultures; life in the environment and universe around us…We also notice life where it is most endangered and vulnerable. We must breathe life where people are gasping for inspiration and hope.” (Jude Siciliano, OP, Preacher’s Exchange, March 6, 2005) May the wonder of these three days fill our hearts and lives with renewed hope and joy!

Peace, S. Sheral

Your Help Needed
This year, after the Holy Thursday Mass, we will process up to Hennessy Hall where we will have adoration until 10 pm. If you have cala lilies or orchids which you could cut for the environment there, please bring them to the rectory Wednesday. Thank you very much.

Also, if you have some time this Saturday morning, the liturgy committee would love your help as we transform the environment from the somberness of Good Friday to the exuberance of Holy Saturday. Please come to the church at 9:30 am. No previous experience necessary! Thank you.
