PARISH BULLETIN
December 17, 2006
Third Sunday of Advent

Dear Friends:

A sudden chill in the air and we realize it’s a bit too cool this afternoon to sit out on our deck to write you this letter. We move ourselves and our teacups into the warmth of our living room. How we revel in the encouraging readings for today:

The Lord is in your midst; He will rejoice over you with gladness and renew you in His love, He will sing joyfully because of you...Fear not—Be not discouraged...Cry out with joy and gladness...Rejoice in the Lord always...The Lord is near...Have no anxiety at all”.

What good news! We have a God who truly loves us.

Only one more week till Christmas. Together we wait in joyful expectation. The cards have been mailed out. The tree is trimmed and the house decorated. Shopping is almost done. The menu is planned. Now is the time for us to prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus. St. Robert’s Advent Penance Service will be at 7:30 pm this Wednesday, December 20th, in our Church. Members of our faith community will come together as family; listen to God’s word; examine our consciences; pray for one another; confess our sins and experience “the peace of God that surpasses all understanding”.

God, our Father, is waiting to forgive us; to put a spring in our steps and a smile on our faces. What more joyous gift could we receive from Him. All we have to do is come—God will do the rest!

See you there!
Gene & Anna May

GIFTS FOR THE HOMEBOUND

As we have been doing for many years during Advent, we ask that each of us remember with love those members of our Parish family who are confined to their homes or to nursing homes because of illness or advanced years. We can open our hearts to them by bringing an unwrapped new Christmas gift to the baskets that are placed on the altar steps. Some suggestions are: lap robes, slippers, dusters, nightgowns, pajamas, robes, sweaters, white knee socks or a note or card telling them that we pray for them and that we love them. Our caring means so very much. Gifts will wrapped and distributed Tuesday, December 19th.

AND

ADOPT A FAMILY-There are many people in San Mateo County who don’t have the means to celebrate Christmas as they might like. Like last year we designated families affected by Hurricane Katrina from our Adopted Parishes in Gulfport, Mississippi. We have a “Giving Tree” set up in front of church. This tree is “decorated” with paper ornaments containing a profile of a family you might be able to help. If you have the means to share your Christmas spirit, stop by and pick an ornament. Gifts or Scrip will be collected after Masses this weekend, Dec. 16 & 17. Call Rob Aveson for more information.

WHEN CHRISTMAS IS NEAR

On Saturday, Dec. 23, we’ll be doing some cleaning and all the decorating for Christmas! If you can help, please come in your old clothes at 9:30 am. If you can bring dust cloths, a Dust Buster or its equivalent, or a bucket and mop, that would be great! The usual envelopes for donations for flowers will be in the pews, but if you’d like to bring a poinsettia, please don’t bring it until the 23rd.

Thank you very much. S. Sheral
