Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time

Important Message From Father Bruce

After two Masses last Sunday a man was passing out flyers as people left the parking lot about pedophilia and gay priests urging people to withdraw donations from the Church and to write Archbishop Levada. This man is from a family who has harassed parishioners at different parishes in the peninsula. He has the right to distribute literature while on the sidewalk. He cannot enter Church property. I informed him that if he was caught on church property I would have him arrested for trespassing. Just as he has the right to hand out literature you have the right to refuse it. The man has a strong temper. It is best not to engage this man in any conversation. Ignore him. I have talked to the San Bruno police about the matter this past week.

Dear Parishioners,

The school is sparkling and teachers are arranging the classrooms for another school year. My first year at St. Robert went quickly and I am excited to start my 2nd year as principal. The 1st day of school for students, teachers and faculty is a new beginning with a clean slate. Just as on New Year’s Day, new resolutions are made to work hard and try to improve from last year.

I was thankful for the parish support for the school throughout the year with the many volunteer hours and First Sunday collections. It is said it takes a village to raise a child, but I believe it takes a parish to raise a Catholic child. The many talents of St. Robert’s parishioners that are shared with the students of St. Roberts are greatly appreciated. The school’s opening Mass will be held September 2nd at 8:30 a.m. and I welcome all parishioners to come celebrate with us.

Ms. Yvonne Olcomendy
Principal , St. Roberts School

CENTERPLATE UPDATE

Last Saturday night was the first 49er game of the season. We were assigned one of the largest booths in Monster Park. We had 16 volunteers and a cook from Centerplate. Our sales were over $23,000 for the one night. We will be receiving 10 – 12 % for the game. We realized that we need to bring more volunteers. We should have at least 20 people per game in this stand. The next two games Friday, August 26th and Sunday, September 11th both conflict with Giant’s games at SBC park. Centerplate will continue to offer higher percentages for these two games. Sign up at the back of Church or on line at www.saintroberts.org .

Throughout the month of August we have been staffing a merchandise booth at the 49er training camp. We will receive 7% or $400.00 whichever is greater for each day.

Thanks to the many people who have volunteered.

September 23rd, 24th and 25th

BARBECUE AND FOOD BOOTHS
are in need of your help. Several people are needed to work in these two very popular booths and everyone from the parish is welcome to help. Most shifts are for two hours, but you can work for as many hours as you would like and on all three days if you wish.

The menu will include those all-time favorites – delicious barbecued tri-tip steak sandwiches, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, polish sausages, pizza, nachos, soft drinks, candy and much more.

If you would like to work in either of these booths or can help in any way, please contact Louise and Ray Downs or Raquel and Jeff Downs.

FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Volunteers are needed to chair booths at the upcoming festival. No previous experience is required. This is a great way to support the parish, as well as meet fellow parishioners. If you can chair a booth or know of someone who can, please contact Andrew & Carol DeGraca at degraca@aol.com. If you have any questions, please contact Carol. Thanks.

FESTIVAL RAFFLE TICKETS: The students at our parish school are having a contest to see which grade can sell the most Festival Raffle tickets.

1st Prize Free Dress and Pizza Party
2nd Prize Free Dress OR Pizza Party
3rd Prize Free Dress

When you turn in your raffle stubs, don't forget to write on the outside of the envelope or include a note inside, telling us which grade you want to get credit for your book of tickets. If you need more tickets, the rectory has them or call Barbara Balestieri. Don't forget, get your stubs in by Friday, September 9th to be eligible for the Early Bird Drawing!
