Baptism of the Lord

but_pacm.gif (4092 bytes)

Dear Parishioners,

Today we celebrate the feast of the Baptism of Jesus. The gospel story tells us how on the banks of the Jordan River, John the Baptist preached to the people about repentance and urged them to turn away from sin and selflessness. John took all who repented into the river, baptized them as a sign of their desire to change. Jesus heard about John and came to the river and humbly asked to be baptized. Jesus was sinless - he did not need to be baptized, but his baptism was an affirmation of his identity and mission. On this feast of the baptism of the Lord, we give thanks for the gift of our baptism. We remember all those who journey with us in faith, family, friends and parishioners. Let us remember especially those members of our parish who are preparing for baptism at Easter Vigil and for the newly baptized children. Each baptism is an important event for the entire Church. Each new member is another reason for hope in the future. Each person, starting on the journey of faith, joins us and offers a promise of faithfulness to us as we offer the same promise to them.

Sincerely,
Sister Mary

A NOTE FROM FATHER RING

Dear Parishioners,

The contractors continue to work on the PRESENTATION EDUCATION CENTER. With the good weather, the plastering of the building, cement stair cases and other outside work has been able to move forward. On the inside, the tiling has been completed in the bathrooms and the drop ceiling and the cabinets are being put in place. Our hope is that we will be able to occupy the building by the begining of March. Please save the date of Saturday, May 24th, at 3:00 p.m. for the formal dedication. Mass and a reception will follow. Bishop Wang, the new auxiliary bishop, will preside. Following the completion of the Center, we will begin the remodeling of the existing kindergarten into a Parish Religious Education Center and a Faculty lunch room. Thank you to all parishioners who are contributing to this great project. BUILDING FOR A NEW CENTURY.

Sincerely,
Father Ring

Reform and Renewal

Next Sunday we will begin our three-week process of implementing new liturgical practices. We will provide written and spoken explanations not only of the changes themselves, but also of the value and significance behind them. The intent behind these reforms is that our worship will be renewed. Everyone will be asked to renew their efforts to be reverent, hospitable, and fully participative in attendance, the prayers, the songs, and the silence. As good as things are here at St. Robert’s, there is room for us to grow and to tap into even greater depths of God’s presence. Let’s pray together that these reforms will indeed draw us closer in love, deeper in holiness, more in union with Jesus. Pat Vallez-Kelly

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

to June & Walton Dickhoff - celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

From the beginning,
the living Tradition of the Church—
as shown by the Didache,
the most ancient non-biblical Christian writing—
categorically repeated the commandment
"You shall not kill":

"There are two ways, a way of life and a way of death; there is a great difference between them...In accordance with the precept of the teaching; you shall not kill...you shall not put a child to death by abortion nor kill it once it is born...

The way of death is this:...
they show no compassion for the poor, they do not suffer with the suffering, they do not acknowledge their Creator, they kill their children and by abortion cause God’s creatures to perish; they drive away the needy, oppress the suffering, they are advocates of the rich and unjust judges of the poor; they are filled with every sin. May you be able to stay ever apart, O children, from all these sins!"

—quoted in Pope John Paul II
The Gospel of Life, no. 54
