Epiphany of the Lord

but_pacm.gif (4092 bytes)

Dear Parishioners,

"We saw his star at its’ rising and have come to do him homage."

We are children of the Light!
We are a people bathed in LIGHT!

In the churches of the Christian East, the sacraments by which we become Christians (Baptism, Chrismation or Confirmation, and Eucharist) are called ‘holy illumination’—WE ARE ILLUMINED by CHRIST!

We who have pondered God’s grace in the shadows of Advent—we who have waited with anxious anticipation the dawn—are now bathed in the brilliance of a new day. For the Day of the Lord has dawned, and our darkness has been dispelled. Isaiah’s words resound in our hearts today:

"...upon you the Lord shines, and over you appears his glory."

It is the Epiphany of the Lord! The Lord’s grace and light, wisdom and love are made manifest—in us! We are to be the light of Christ which dispels the darkness. We are to be witnesses who ‘glow,’ with the transformative power of the God who saves us.

In us—-who are illumined by Christ - is His LIGHT to shine. In us shall the poor and the lowly find the compassion of the Lord.

"Let your light shine for all the world to see",

says the Lord. The wonder of this day compels us:

To Let Our Light Shine!!

Father Tom

Being Present to God

We have outlined some important beliefs about Church and liturgy over the past weeks:

  • The Church is the living sacrament of Jesus Christ, who lives. The way we are as Church, including the way we worship, tells the world that Jesus Christ is not dead.

  • The way we worship is a public expression of our unity and common faith. We share creeds, scripture, postures and gestures with many people in our archdiocese, country, and throughout the world. We don’t make it up all on our own.

Another important reality for us to consider as we prepare to make adjustments to our liturgy is this: God is truly present to us as we gather for liturgy. But what is our attitude? Are we present to God? Is there real presence coming from us when we celebrate Mass? We must value the love and reverence we have for God and in so doing, also value our need to create an environment of prayer. Some of the upcoming changes are intended to help us foster an attitude of reverence for God’s Presence. Pat Vallez-Kelly

Because of the generosity of the people of this parish and parishes around the U.S., last year, over eight and one half million dollars were contributed to the Collection and 98 cents of every dollar was distributed. The support went to some of the neediest people across the United States; from the inner cities of the rural South, from the deserts of the Southwest to Alaska’s cold wilderness - 134 DIOCESES RECEIVED ASSISTANCE FROM THE COLLECTION.
