PARISH BULLETIN
November 10, 2002
Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners,

November is traditionally the month for giving thanks. A parish this size would not survive without the help of many volunteers. On behalf of our whole St. Robert’s community, I would like to express our thanks to our volunteers. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I recently received yet another letter of thanks from the San Mateo County AIDS Program. They continually give thanks to us for our involvement and help in their effort to provide over 400 meals a month to their clients. As a parish, we have been assisting this program for over 10 years. I no longer know all of you who contribute, but I do know that Laverne and Larry Buller have been our delivery people for years. Thanks again to all who contribute with your time and talents.

I also realize that there are many unsung heroes in St. Robert’s, who contribute their time and talents to other charitable and nonprofit organizations. I pray that you may recognize God’s love, grace and appreciation for each of you.

Thanks for the inspiration and example you continually provide me.

Deacon Duffey

"Let us proclaim the mystery of faith." We who are gathered by the Spirit announce the Good News —- a mystery ever ancient, ever new: "CHRIST HAS DIED, CHRIST IS RISEN, CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN."

The story of God’s love for us is proclaimed —-the scriptures recount the goodness of God, the homily draws us into the biblical mystery of a God who heals and sets us free.

Our hearts are moved with gratitude for all that God has done —- the gracious love which led a captive people to freedom through the desert, the faithfulness of this God who became flesh for our salvation.

In the midst of this grateful remembrance — this prayer of Thanksgiving (EUCHARIST) —- we discover the Lord Jesus in our midst. The Savior is present in the Bread of Life broken for us, the Cup of Blessing shared among us.

With thankful hearts we are sent forth, sent to become ‘bread broken and cup poured out’ for the life of the world. Our call is to simply live eucharistic lives —- to be a grateful people, a people who share our lives in love and service in the name of the God whose love enfolds us all.

For all that God has done, all that God accomplishes in our lives on this day of grace, and all that God promises in the days to come —- to this great and compassionate God we give glory and say: "Thanks be to God."

Father Tom

A NOTE FROM FATHER RING

Thank you for your continual support of the Parish. I am sure that you often wonder where the the money is going. This past week we paid two bills, which demonstrate how costs have increased. Our insurance liability for the Parish was $17,151.00 and for the school an additional $19,163.00. This is almost 30% of an increase over last year!

At the same time, I am happy to announce that the Parish Festival raised $54,000, which will benefit the school, the religious education and the youth programs. Thank you to all who worked so hard to make the Festival a success.

Many individuals are  misguided in their pursuit of money, pleasure and personal advancement rather than attending to relationship with God, an acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Savior, and the honest prayer that the end of life will find them ready to meet God and enter Paradise. The key to dying well is living well. Living well means a life characterized by love of God and love of neighbor.
