A NOTE FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners,

The Parish Picnic on Saturday, August 18th, was a great success. Over two hundred parishioners attended and had a great opportunity to meet one another and share a time of relaxation and friendship with one another. Thank you to the hard-working men and women who worked so hard to make this annual event such a great success.

Sister Jean Michlec of the Maryknoll Sisters, who spoke at all the Masses on the weekend of the 18th, asked me to thank all who contributed to the collection for the support of the Maryknoll Sisters who bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to nations throughout the world. Your contribution of $3,287.45 is a great sign of our Parish’s commitment to the Missions.

Our Parish school is back in session. Welcome to our new teachers: Katherine Paton in the 1st grade, Lorelei Berlino in the 3rd grade, Coryne Wong-Whittington in the 7th grade and Karen Harvey Ashworth in the 8th grade. Also new to the school is Kenith Goodman who will serve as student counselor, Aura Baldomero, who will be both music teacher and first grade aide; and Linda Cuddy and Yvonne Giuseponi, who will be aides in the second, third and fourth grades. This year 312 students will benefit from the commitment of our Parish to Catholic school education.

Our Parish commitment to Catholic education is not limited to our Parish school. Please read the notices in this bulletin concerning our Religious Education program for children attending public schools, our Rite of Christian Initiation program for adults who wish to learn more about the Catholic Faith and our Bible Study Program under the direction of Sister Ita Cleary.

The exterior of our church, and especially the tower, look great with the new paint job. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Frances Kollerer whose generous donation in her will made this job possible. In your own wills, do not forget St. Robert’s!

Sincerely,
Father Ring

The Sacrament of Eucharist

In June of this year, the U.S. Bishops offered a succinct teaching entitled The Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of the Eucharist: Basic Questions and Answers. Here’s another excerpt:

12. Does one receive the whole Christ if one receives Holy Communion under a single form?

Yes. Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior, is wholly present under the appearance either of bread or of wine in the Eucharist. Furthermore, Christ is wholly present in any fragment of the consecrated Host or in any drop of the Precious Blood. Nevertheless, it is especially fitting to receive Christ in both forms during the celebration of the Eucharist. This allows the Eucharist to appear more perfectly as a banquet, a banquet that is a foretaste of the banquet that will be celebrated with Christ at the end of time when the Kingdom of God is established in its fullness (cf. Eucharisticum Mysterium, no. 32).

My recent thought about receiving from the Cup is this: The grace of God offered to us in Eucharist under either form (bread or wine) is the same, but our openness to that grace changes when we receive both the Host and the Cup. Several people have told me that the sensory experience of tasting that sweet Wine and sharing the Cup has given them an entirely new outlook on Holy Communion. Pat Kelly

Dear Friends,

I hope you all enjoyed a little break from your regular schedule during vacation time. Now it is time to get back to every day tasks--driving the children to school, to games etc. There is something good about a schedule. It keeps us in focus. Somehow or other we achieve more; but achieving is not what is important. According to today’s readings it is WHO we are that counts. When we realize our dignity, we do not have to always look for the first place. Jesus warns us about being too pushy. We could find ourselves in the last place.

The theme for today’s readings is Humility -- not something that makes us grovel before others, but recognizing that we are all children of the same Father, equal but different. No one of us has every talent. Each one of us has some. May we, together, use our talents to make the Kingdom of God a reality in our parish.

<>Every blessing,
Sister Ita
