Dear Parishioners,

On October 11th, 25 years ago, Renee and I celebrated the Sacrament of Marriage. About 23 years ago we moved to St. Robert’s Parish. Shortly thereafter we were told by our doctors that we could not have children. We were devastated.

For almost 20 years, Renee has shared her life with over 900 young men at Serra High School. For the past 10 years, through my diaconate ministry, the people of St. Robert’s have let me share the precious life moments of their children. We also have a large number of nieces, nephews and godchildren to play with when we feel like being childish.

Sometimes it takes 20 years to understand, just a little bit, of what God’s plan for us might be.

Thanks for sharing your families with ours.

—Renee and Rusty Duffey

YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE

A mail survey regarding a parish-wide fund raising campaign to support the construction of a new Education Center and a Social/Recreation Center was mailed to you this past week. Members of our Parish have been researching the viability of building these two facilities for many months and your response to the survey - as Father Ring’s cover letter states - is very important at this time.

If you have not already done so, please complete the questionnaire immediately. You may mail it back, drop it off at the parish office or put it in the collection. Please be sure to return it as soon as possible! Thank you.

A NOTE FROM FATHER MORRIS

Please note that our webmasters post the Parish Bulletin that I send to them. Please draw errors to my attention, not theirs.

Thank you,
Father Morris

"The Liturgy of the Doors"

There have been a few creative theologians in recent years who have asserted that Mass does not consist merely of two large "movements"—the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist—but of three. They like to call the third "movement" the Liturgy of the Doors. They are referring to the fact that although we say, "The Mass is ended. Go in peace to love and to serve the Lord." the sacrifice of the Eucharist must continue in our lives beyond the doors of our house of worship. I KNOW this happens at St. Robert’s. I’ve seen it. It’s evidence that our celebration of Eucharist is not only the summit but also the source of our Christian lives. - Pat Kelly

PROJECT RACHEL

Project Rachel, a compassionate support ministry sponsored by the Respect Life Commission of the Archdiocese, is available to anyone who has had an abortion regardless of their faith background. This program offers an opportunity to explore and heal the pain, guilt, depression and/or sadness that they might be feeling. For further information, please take a Project Rachel booklet available in the racks in the vestibule of the church.

IT'S TURKEY TIME...well, sort of:

This Thanksgiving Season the members of our St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Robert’s are collecting Gift Certificates and Script for Albertson’s, Lunardi’s, Safeway, Molly Stone in lieu of frozen turkeys. Since some families either do not have the facilities for cooking turkeys or may prefer hams, chicken or vegetables, we feel that scrip and gift certificates would be more appropriate.

We will still be giving our canned food like in the past. Non-perishable food can be left in the vestibule of the church.

You may make out these certificates to St. Vincent de Paul and either mail them to the Rectory or drop them in their mailbox. Thanksgiving food and certificates will be given out on Saturday, November 18th.

Thank you for your support,
Wally Mooney, President

THANK YOU

"The Strehl Family deeply appreciates the many cards, Masses and Novenas for Bill. The outpouring of love from our parish ‘family’ greatly enlarged our little family of only 2. Now Bill prays for all those who prayed for him."

"Catholics who are privileged to serve in public leadership positions have an obligation to place their faith at the heart of their public service, particularly on issues regarding the sanctity and dignity of human life. Thomas More, the former chancellor of England who preferred to give his life rather than betray his Catholic convictions, went to his execution with the words, ‘I die the king’s good servant, but God’s first’"

(U.S. Bishops, Living the Gospel of Life, 1998, n.31).
