Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Friends,

I’ve always wanted . . . to write a three-dot . . . column, so here . . . goes . . . (I’m getting carried away already!) . . . JUBILEE MASS ENVELOPES will be in church this week. I like what they are doing with this free-will offering. Half of what the archdiocese collects in the Jubilee Mass envelopes will go to several excellent local charities. If you’d like to make a donation for the jubilee celebration, please use one of the envelopes provided. You can drop it in the second collection next weekend (which is primarily for the World Missions—another worthy cause!) . . . PLEASE PRAY for peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It appears to be at a critical stage. We cannot do much about what is going on there except pray, but that will be effective. Pray that they do not abandon their hope for peace. As members of Christ’s Body we must now stand with Him before God to earnestly ask for the gift of peace in the Holy Land. What a jubilee grace that would be! . . . KEEP IN MIND this weeks RENEW 2000 focus of caring for our environment. It should be a part of our Respect for Life discussions. . . Hmm. . . I’ve got lots more dots, but no more room! Be excellent to each other, especially at church. Introduce yourself to someone today!

Pat Kelly

A NOTE FROM FATHER RING

Dear Parishioners,

Thank you for your best wishes and prayers during my sabbatical. It is hard to believe that over two months have gone by. Aside from my regular vacation in the mountains, I have made a few short trips - Mendocino and Yosemite and have made a retreat at the Jesuit Retreat House in Los Altos. Between reading, visiting family and friends and doing some historical research, there is little time to get bored. Yes, I have played some golf but not as much as I thought I would. Thank you to the priests, the staff and all of you for making this time of renewal possible. It has been a wonderful opportunity for me to recover my health and my energy. I hope a week in Hawaii with a family who once lived in our parish will help even more. Don’t be jealous!

Sincerely,
Father Ring

There’s been some shuffling among music personnel during the last month. David Martin will be our new regular cantor at the 4:30pm Saturday evening liturgy. We owe a big "THANK YOU" to Mary Marsh who has helped us out as organist and cantor during Don Thompson’s recovery from foot surgery. (Don can play a walking bass line again on the organ!) Don and I have also agreed that I will play for the 7:30 and 9:00am masses for the time being. We will keep tabs on how that arrangement is working out. - Pat Kelly

EMERGENCY PRAYER NETWORK

The Emergency Prayer Network continues to pray for specific intentions that require a concerted effort due to their critical nature. To facilitate the network, please call Michele Pipinich. The network then prays frequently for the next 72 hours. We would appreciate a return call with the outcome so we can praise God for His faithfulness.
