PARISH BULLETIN
May 21, 2000
Fifth Sunday of Easter

YOUR PRESENCE IS REQUESTED

1. On Saturday, July 1st, we have planned a Parish Pilgrimage to St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, which has been preparing priests for the Archdiocese and others dioceses for over 100 years. We’ll have a 4:30pm Mass (which fulfills the Sunday obligation), followed by a tour of the Seminary and a pot-luck dinner.

2. On Saturday, October 28, an Archdiocesan Mass at the new Pac Bell Park in San Francisco, with doors opening at Noon, a "Call to Worship" at 1:30, and the Mass beginning at 3:00pm (which will fulfill your Sunday obligation). Parishioners from St. Robert’s will go by public transportation (all co-ordinated with the Archdiocese) and by chartered buses (for those with difficulty taking public transportation).

This will be a unique opportunity for thousands of Catholics from everywhere in the Archdiocese to come together, on a Holy Year Pilgrimage, to celebrate Mass with our Archbishop and fellow believers. As we all flock together in the stadium from many different directions, representing many different cultures and histories, God our Father will be blessing us in ways which we cannot even imagine. We will be a living sign of unity. Be there if you are able!

Additionally, Archbishop Levada has specially designated five "Pilgrimage Sites" here in the Archdiocese:
--Mission Dolores, the Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi, & St. Mary’s Cathedral, in San Francisco.
--Mission San Rafael, in San Rafael.
--St. Patrick’s Seminary, in Menlo Park.

Any Catholic who so desires may make a pilgrimage at any time to these places and gain the Jubilee Indulgence, which is the remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins, already forgiven as far as the fault is concerned. The conditions for gaining the indulgence, as indicated in the Bull of Indication of the Jubilee Year, are:

  1. Sacramental Confession
  2. Holy Communion
  3. A Pilgrimage
  4. Prayers, according to the Pope’s intention
  5. A Visit to a Church
  6. Charitable Works

If you’d like to make your own personal pilgrimage to one or more of these five special sites, you may obtain "The Pilgrim’s Jubilee Prayerbook" free for the asking at the parish office. The booklet will guide you with all the directions needed.

And now, we need your assistance....

We need to estimate the number of St. Robert Parishioners who are interested in these historic events. Please fill out the form in the Bulletin to assist us in planning the July 1st Seminary Pilgrimage and the October 28 PacBell Mass. Pilgrimage. Drop the slip off either at the parish office or in the collection. In the box, tell us the number to expect.

READINGS FOR NEXT SUNDAY, SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
Acts of the Apostles 10:25-48; 1 John 4:7-10; John 15:9-17

IN OUR HOUSE

Have you ever heard the phrase, "You are what you eat."? If that was literally true I’d be a large frozen pizza by now. But there is some truth to the old saying. Remember last week I put some parts of the Eucharistic prayers in this space. Did you notice how consistent the message is? When we eat and drink the body and blood of Christ we pray that we, as a people, will become the Body of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. We join in Holy Communion not only for our own individual salvation and holiness, but also because it forms us together into Christ’s living body in the world, fulfilling his mission to bring about the Reign of God, something none of us can do on our own. - Pat Kelly

We welcome into the family of God: Gerciano Icatar, Krystal Hin, Aaron Aguada, Jordan Pariani-Reeves, & Boris Kreysa, Jr., who were baptized in Christ.

We pray for the ill: Marlyn Arancibia, Bastiaan Blumenthal, Marcia Bourne, Ann Burns, Sister Cabrini, Arthur Candia, Peter Capodonicco, Theresa Cook, Ana Cosgaya, Imelda Daly, William & Sandra Dill, Adela Florez, Rita Gomez, Randall Guerro, Denise Hawald, Koret Koelman, Muriel Krause, Marky, Rosemary McHale, Jeanne McHugh, Terry McLeod, Walter Moniz, Richard Quintana, Cyndy Smerdel, Ann Steinerd, Margarita Velez, & Don Vickery.

THANK YOU TO ST. ROBERT'S ALTAR SERVERS

Our Parish is very blessed to have 100 girls and boys who faithfully and generously give their time to serve at the Table of the Lord. On Tuesday, May 23rd, our Altar Servers celebrate their ministry at Blackberry Farm with a picnic. These young people are a sign of our faith community that ours is a living and growing church.
