Dear Parishioners,

During the past few weeks, over one hundred and thirty children have received the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time. I want to give special thanks to Sister Mary O’Donnell and to the teachers of the children in the school and in the Religious Education program who have helped the parents of the children in the children's formation as Christians.

We have almost reached our goal for the Annual Appeal of the Archdiocese. I want to thank all those who have been so generous. For me, there are two special ministries of special importance that are helped by your generosity. One is aid to inner-city schools and the other is help for retired priests. I think that these causes, along with the many others that are helped, make our sacrifices worthwhile.

Any money that is given above our assessment will come back to the Parish. We will use it to help renovate the wall of the Sanctuary. The plan calls for the placement of eight windows to bring natural light into the space and to visually enhance the areas to the sides of the marble.

Sincerely,
Fr. Ring

My Dear People,

On June 8, 1998, the priests of the Archdiocese, Bishop McGrath and I are gathering for a four day convocation in Monterey to reflect on God’s call to priestly service. Together we will explore ways of making our shared ministry ever more effective as we face the unique challenges and opportunities which lie before us as we approach the new millennium. This process will enable us to strengthen our commitment to the Lord and to be of greater service to you.

Given the importance of this convocation and my desire to include all the priests of the Archdiocese, I have authorized special arrangements to be made so that you , the faithful of the Archdiocese, will be properly served during the absence of your parish priests. To the extent possible, Holy Mass will be celebrated in the parishes during the days of convocation. Where this is not possible, Communion Services will be led by deacons or competent lay leaders according to the proper rite. All emergencies will be covered by a substitute priest and your pastor will instruct you on how to contact this priest in an emergency.

Please keep our Convocation in your prayers, asking the Holy Spirit to guide our reflections and to lead us toward greater personal holiness in our eagerness to serve you, our brothers and sisters in the Lord. With every best wish, then, I remain

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend William J. Levada

Archbishop of San Francisco

RETROUVAILLE,
a program for couples in troubled marriages

is starting another session on June 12-14 1998 at the Vallombrosa Retreat Center. A team of three couples and a Catholic priest present the weekend and the six follow-up sessions over the next 90 days; all couples who have mentally or physically packed their bags are welcome. Don’t let your marriage and family slip away without giving this program a chance. Thousands of couples have been able to rediscover and return to the sacred covenant and sacramental promise and have restored the family. Call Ed and Peg Gleason at (415) 221-4269 for more information or brochures.
