PARISH BULLETIN
April 15, 2007
Second Sunday of Easter

Dear Parishioners,

What a joy to be able to thank so many of you whose love and time and energy helped all of us to truly celebrate the Three Holiest Days of our faith! Thank you to MaryAnn Saisi and the other dedicated adults and helpers for the Good Friday afternoon session for children and the Palm Sunday gospel presentation the previous weekend. Thank you to Ben Baldonado, Bob Baker, the youth, young adults and adults who worked so hard on the Passion Play; it was evident that you understood what you were presenting as you made the Passion of Jesus come alive for all of us. Thank you to our celebrants, deacons, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, altar servers, greeters and ushers; to the choir members – adults and children - and cantors, and to Kevin and Gabe; the prayerful manner in which each of you did your ministry helped us experience God’s presence in the mysteries we were celebrating. Many thanks to all of you who brought orchids and cala lilies and to everyone who donated to the flower fund; we’ll try to keep the environment lovely for all 50 days of this Easter season until its culmination on Pentecost, so if your garden is still blooming, please bring even more flowers! To the liturgy committee, our many helpers, Tom Dachauer and his crew, We are eternally indebted. And to our newest members, those initiated at the Easter Vigil, thank you for choosing to join us. We welcome your presence, your gifts and your energy! Thank you to all of you, God’s good and holy people, whose lives of love and faithful service enrich us daily.

“What would it be like if all our collective griefs, all our sorrow, all our fears of death and terror were met head-on in a single human life? It might look very much like Holly Week and the Great 50 Days of Easter. It might look like an unforgettable human figure stretching out arms to embrace all the world’s pain, only to have those same arms enfold with undying love all that we are and all that we may yet be…Easter is most of all about humanity’s being clothed with new garments, with clothing of love, justice, healing and hope.” (Don Saliers, “Crown of the Year,” America, April 2, 2007)

>May the Spirit of the Risen Lord keep us growing and reaching out in love to those who haven’t yet experienced the joy of new life in Christ.

Peace, S. Sheral

As a Parish Community we pray....on this Divine Mercy Sunday, we pray for the people of God. May we come to Jesus, ask His forgiveness and experience His divine mercy and love. May we place our trust in Him.

Our sincere sympathy to the families of
Aulola Paunga and Theresa Kollerer
who died recently.

We continue to ask each week that parishioners pray for the chronically ill of our parish. If you have a friend or loved one in need of our parish prayers please call the Rectory at 589-2800.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
"This is the day the Lord has made:
Let us be glad and Rejoice in it!"

Today is Divine Mercy Sunday. Jesus loves each of us. He will not let us go. He comes to us again and again bringing signs of His love: His mercy, forgiveness and peace.

On April 30, 2000, Pope John Paul II declared this second Sunday of Easter to be "Divine Mercy Sunday". During His conversations with St. Faustina in Poland in the early 1930's, Jesus asked her to "tell the whole world about My inconveivable Mercy"... "I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, especially for poor sinners... The soul that will goto Confession and receive Holy Commjnion (on that day) shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment"... "On that day, the very depths of My tender mercy are open." (As long as we are in the state of grace, Confession within a reasonable time is sufficient). Let our motto be:

Jesus, I trust in You!

Putting Faith into Action
“If you want peace, work for justice.” (Pope Paul VI) On Tuesday, April 24, hundreds of Catholics will converge on the Capitol in Sacramento to celebrate Mass with Bishop Richard Garcia of Monterey, get updates on legislation, rally at the Capitol, and speak with our state representatives. The issues on the docket are very important to us as people of faith: physician-assisted suicide (again), comprehensive immigration reform, and healthcare reform. Other issues, which may be addressed if time allows, are: expansion of the safe surrender of infants; collection of umbilical cord blood; fetal pain protection; expansion of food stamps; energy assistance for low-income residents; and compassionate release of terminally ill prisoners. The cost of the bus trip, materials and lunch is $20. The bus will leave from St. Robert’s at 6:30 pm and should return about 6 pm. There is also a legislative training morning Saturday, April 21 from 9 to noon at St. Anne’s in the Sunset. You are welcome to come to either or both events. Please contact me at ssheral@saintroberts.org or call me at the rectory if you have questions or would like to come. Both events will be interesting!

Peace, S. Sheral
