This Sunday we will celebrate the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick at the 11:30 am Mass. We are so blessed to have this beautiful healing sacrament. All who are sick or elderly are invited to receive it.

This coming Sunday we will have an extra hour’s sleep as our clocks will go back an hour. Between the change of Mass times and the extra hour, I can imagine some people not knowing whether they are coming or going!

For several years I have been holding a boutique in aid of our Sister’s Ministry to the disadvantaged. It began in a very small way. It has grown and grown and has become too big for me to handle anymore. I have decided that the boutique on Saturday, October 26th, and Sunday, October 27th, will be my final one - my SWAN SONG!!! All of you have been so generous in the past and I know you will help to make this last one a huge success. If you have any item that you would like to donate for the Silent Auction, Patti Linehan (738-9171) would love to hear from you.

On Saturday, November 2nd, at the 8:30 am Mass, we will remember your loved ones who have died, especially those who have been buried from our church since last November. Please join us as we celebrate their lives.

As my good friend, the PBVM sister from Ireland, wrote above, today we celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick at the 11:30 Mass. What wisdom and beauty there is in celebrating healing as we celebrate Eucharist and thanksgiving.

Each of us carries pain in our hearts or bodies at different times in life. Whether you’re heart is aching because someone you love has hurt or left you, or whether your body is ill or broken, the mercy of God and love of Christ accompanies you. In the Eucharist alone, as we gather with brothers and sisters in Christ to hear the Word and to be fed with Christ’s Body and Blood, we can find great comfort and strength to bear our pains. We know that God walks with those who suffer.

The Sacrament of Anointing is for those whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age. We believe that "this sacrament gives the grace of the Holy Spirit to those who are sick: by this grace the whole person is helped and saved, sustained by trust in God, and strengthened against the temptations of the Evil One and against anxiety over death. Thus the sick person is able not only to bear suffering bravely, but also to fight against it." (General Introduction to the Rites of Anointing and Viaticum, 6.)

The Adult Choir singing at the 9:30 Mass is seeking those interested in joining us in raising our voices in praise. We will be rehearsing music for Advent and Christmas soon and would love to invite new members to help us make these seasons truly joyous! Our rehearsals are on Wednesday from 7:30-9:00PM and we gather at 9:00 AM on Sunday to warm-up. Although we welcome you to join us throughout the year, we would be happy for you to sing for Nov. and Dec. in preparation for Christmas. We are planning a Midnight Mass with a brass quartet and much beautiful and festive music.
