Dear Parishioners,

Today our parish, along with other parishes across the United States, is celebrating Catechetical Sunday. This year of Jubilee also marks the sixty-fifth consecutive year that the Church has so honored its catechists. At the 9:00 a.m. and 5:30pm Masses we will have a special blessing for all Catechists involved in our Religious Education Program, Children’s Liturgy and RCIA. As we begin another year, I ask you to pray for God’s continued blessing on our parish ministries.

All of us—priests, parents, teachers, youth ministers—share the mission of Jesus. We are called to show our young people who God is and how much He loves them. We do this by example, by being with them, by listening, praying, laughing, forgiving, and by being patient. Jesus is our model. His was a challenging ministry. At times He was exasperated by the Apostles, with their many questions, their doubts, and their apparent lack of faith. But Jesus never gave up. Let us, too, be steadfast and persevering in providing a climate of hope and trust that will nurture and strengthen the faith of our young people. Our Catechists also need support in many ways and here are three to consider:

  1. Begin by praying for all catechists—they need the prayers and support of the parish community all year long, not just on Catechetical Sunday.

  2. Volunteer your time to help as a catechetical aide or assistant.

  3. Give serious consideration to becoming a catechist yourself.

The ministry of catechist is a vocation to which people are called by God. If you feel that you have been called to share your faith with others, call Sister Mary at 588-0477.

Sincerely,
Sister Mary

READINGS for NEXT SUNDAY
Wisdom 2:12. 17-20 James 3:16-4:3 Mark 9:30-37

IN OUR HOUSE
"A Fond Farewell"

Rich and Carol Novelli, our dear friends, our brother and sister in Jesus Christ, are moving away next week. I’m told they’ve lived and worked and prayed and partied at St. Robert’s for more than 40 years. We’re talking biblical proportions!! We will send them off with a blessing and much love at next week’s (Sept. 24) 10:30 Mass.

Real absence. Sometimes it takes real absence to realize that the ones who have been so much a part of our lives eventually become a part of us. In that they remain really present to us. Isn’t that what Jesus’s disciples realized after he died and rose and ascended to heaven? He remained present to them in a very real way, especially as they broke bread and remembered him, so much so that they became a part of Him. - Pat Kelly

We welcome into the family of God: Ryan Galletta, Ryan Green, & Matthew Mogannam, who were baptized in Christ.

Pray for the ill: Marlyn Arancibia, Bastiaan Blumenthal, Marcia Bourne, Ann Burns, Sister Cabrini, Arthur Candia, Ana Cosgaya, Imelda Daly, William & Sandra Dill, Adela Florez, Elsie Grech, Randall Guerro, Denise Hawald, Koret Koelman, Muriel Krause, Marky, Rosemary McHale, Jeanne McHugh, Terry McLeod, Richard Quintana, Cyndy Smerdel, Bill Strehl, Margarita Velez, Josephine Lavoie, Mary Shick, Kari Stellino, Carol Callicotte, Bill Strehl, & Don Vickery.

As a Parish Community, We Pray

For Catechists who welcome and instruct the children in our Religious Education programs and Children’s Liturgy - May God bless them with wisdom, patience and gentleness in this important ministry.

Our sincere sympathy to the families of
Frances Fullan, Fr. Lew O’Neill, S.J., and Elwood Bryant
who recently passed away.

Students in Junior High and the Confirmation Program will receive their class schedules when they meet for their various orientations. CATECHETICAL SUNDAY

This week at the 9:00 am and 5:30 pm Masses, we will join parishes across the country to celebrate the ministry of our parish catechists. On Catechetical Sunday, we recognize and bless our catechists who serve parishioners of all ages, from infants to adults. The theme of this year’s Catechetical Sunday: A Year of Favor, Making All Things New, tells us of our own opportunity for renewal in Christ. Our parish offers many catechetical opportunites throughout the year. Come and hear more about these vital programs and help us to celebrate all of those who serve in this ministry.
