Dear People of St. Robert’s,

May the Risen Christ walk with you.

During Lent, I had the opportunity to do a little more reading than normal. The thoughts of a few authors I found very challenging.

One author wrote about the Eucharist: "Jesus did not institute the Eucharist to change bread and wine into his body and blood, but to change us into his body. The Mass is not meant to transform elements (bread and wine) but to transform people.

When Jesus said, ‘Behold I am with you always, until the end of the world,’ he was not referring to his real presence in the Eucharist; he was referring to his real presence in his people, the members of his body."

This Easter we ask ourselves how we allow Jesus to transform our lives and how we change our world by our lives.

Another author wrote: "Anti-Catholic bias in the United States is ... something more than simply a historical legacy. It is the result of inherent tensions between aspects of the Roman Catholic world view and a democratic, post-Enlightenment, postmodern American culture. And while all religions labor under this postmodern critique, Catholicism has been singled out as a highly visible, seemingly powerful and - therefore - consistently tempting target."

This Easter we ask ourselves how we can come to a greater knowledge of our Faith and Church and not fall into the trap of those in our society who see the Faith and the Church as a fossil from the past - something to be set aside and put into a museum.

We ask ourselves whether we believe that the Risen Christ is still active today in our world and that each of us is called to show by our words and actions that Jesus Christ is Lord of the world.

Sincerely,
Father Ring
